It is doubtful even the current Democrats in Congress will follow all of the liberal planks put down in their Party’s Platform, at their latest convention in Philadelphia. Some of the more “splintered” planks illustrate how radical the current Democrat Party leaders are, and what they hope to eventually accomplish in Congress and see sustained with a liberal majority in the Supreme Court.
Among the more controversial issues in their platform is the call for the full, taxpayer funding of abortion. The Democrat Party Platform this year says: “We will continue to oppose—and seek to overturn—federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman’s access to abortion, including repealing the Hyde Amendment.”
This amendment is named for Republican Representative Henry Hyde, from the Land of Lincoln (Illinois), and is regularly added to spending bills by bi-partisan pro-life congressmen/women to prohibit the use of federal funds for abortion (except in cases of the mother’s life or rape or incest). It was first passed by Congress in 1976 and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1977. It recognized that while the Supreme Court had made it legal, abortion is a personal choice and we should not force all American taxpayers to pay for what many believe to be an immoral act.
Today’s Democratic Party is more radically liberal than ever before and arrogantly ignores the fact that this is not a popular stand with most Americans. Polls show that a wide majority (63%) of Americans say they oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. This includes nearly half (45%) of pro-choice Americans! Racial opposition includes significant percentages of African-Americans (65%) and Hispanic-Americans (61%).
Political wags like to say that “God is not a Democrat or Republican—He’s not even an American!” But He does have an opinion about human life: He is for it! As Creator, he has formed each human being in His own image and abhors abortion. He holds those accountable who wantonly take the innocent blood of our sons and daughters.
I suggest that God will also hold accountable those who vote for candidates, “up and down the ticket,” who will, in turn, vote for the full, taxpayer funding of abortion. This is a genocidal life-and-death matter, with generational and national consequences.
Our political parties have made their social platforms abundantly clear, this year. Now, we must all “ stand and speak and vote your consciences,” more that our pocketbooks or parties!
