The Rutherford Institute, of Charlottesville, Virginia, is sounding an alarm for Americans to “wake up, wise up and get ready” for some tough times ahead for civil liberties and religious freedoms.
Attorney John Whitehead, the Institute’s president, recently warned Gov. Mike Huckabee, on his television show, that America is in danger of transformation into, what he called, “a militarized police state,” with “government corruption, incompetence, injustice and outright violations of our constitutional rights.”
To illustrate, he listed the NSA spying scandals, surveillance cameras, drug-sniffing dogs, SWAT team raids, roadside strip searches, blood draws at DUI checkpoints, mosquito drones, electric tasers, GPS tracking devices, zero tolerance policies, over-criminalization, and restricted free speech zones.
Our civil liberties and religious freedoms are not “free.” They demand diligence and undaunted devotion to what is right and righteous (Micah 6:8).
Jesus said we must “watch and pray” (Matthew 26:41). And the Apostle Paul admonished the believers in Corinth to “be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” (1 Cor. 16:13).
