Hosanna: A Prayer for Deliverance!

PRAY for our Elections

PRAY for our Elections

Psalm 118:24 is a familiar verse: “This is the day which the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!”

The very next verse (v. 25) uses the Hebrew word “Hosh-ia-na,” or Hosanna, in a cry for salvation: “Hosh-ia-na! Please, Adonai, bring salvation and deliverance to your people! Come and save us now!”

As we look around our nation and our modern sinful culture, perhaps we must also cry out, ADONAI, HOSANNA; Please Bring us Salvation, NOW!

On this U.S.A. patriotic weekend, just nine weeks before one of the most important Election Days in our lifetimes, please join me in a few moments of introspection and spiritual preparation “for such a time as this.” May this prayer be yours, as well as mine:

In humility oh, Lord, we must first acknowledge that we have not always been the “city on a hill” You intended, shining our lights brightly, in this dark world. We have compromised our convictions and sullied our royal robes.

Oh, Lord, HOSANNA, Please Bring Salvation, Now!

While our currency, coinage, and pledge of allegiance to our country still claims we are “one nation under God,” our Supreme Court has ruled contrary to Your word, Your will, and Your ways. Your children face harassment and hatred from aggressive activists and we are betrayed by the flip-flops of phony politicians.

Oh, Lord, how should we respond? Do we do as the opposition demands and retreat to rehearsing our views and values only within the four walls of a church building or in our whispered prayers, while cloistered in our closets at home?

How do we effectively “stand up for Jesus” with our words and actions, in this corrupted, intolerant society? How can we show grace to hurting, broken people around us, who may privately despise us and even publicly oppose us?

Oh, Lord, HOSANNA! Please Bring Salvation, Now!

Give us boldness to proclaim that our Christian values are not mere opinions, which can be changed with the “times,” so we can be on the “right side of history.”

Rather, Oh Lord, our values are to be Your values and should be indelibly written on our hearts! They must be biblically based and not quickly changed, at every godless challenge. May the common values your people share come from the immutable “thus says the Lord” commands of Scripture. Our personal beliefs and practices must flow the Mountain of God, from which comes our only hope and help.

Oh, Lord, HOSANNA; Please Bring Salvation, Now!

Our culture has turned from the Judeo-Christian values on which our nation was founded. We are guilty, Oh Lord. We need to seek repentance and reformation, first, in the House of God. Then, may we use our remaining freedoms to seek justice and walk humbly with our God!

The Bible says the Last Days will be characterized by professing believers who have “itching ears” and only want to hear affirmation of their selfish standards and sinful lifestyles.

Oh, Lord, cause our spiritual shepherds to cry out like prophets and exhort and teach us Your holy expectations. Only then, can spiritual renewal begin in our homes and churches and positively transform our culture—once again.

Oh, Lord, HOSANNA; Please Bring Salvation, Now!

Restore us as Living Stones: One life at a time; one marriage at a time; one family at a time. May we be spiritually renewed one church at a time and one community at a time–until we are, once again, the “City of the Angels” and truly “One Nation under God!”

Oh Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob come and rule over us again! Like Ezekiel’s vision of dry bones, come and restore Your people. Breathe your Holy Spirit’s life into us and give us strength and grace to serve You!

Oh, Lord, HOSANNA; Please Bring Salvation, Now!

Come Lord, and thrill us, with your holy presence!

Come now and fill us, from on high!

Cleanse and use us, for Your holy purpose.

Come now and bless us, as we draw nigh!

We pray these things in the name of Jesus/Yeshua of Nazareth, the Jewish Messiah, God’s Son, our Savior, Baptizer, Healer, and Coming King!

Again, we say Oh, Lord, HOSANNA; Please Bring Salvation, Now!
