Getting Serious about Syria?

syriaFriends of Syria, fearing a military action by western forces (including France and the United States), have declared that if Syria is attacked they would respond immediately against our only ally in the region, the tiny nation of Israel.

Given that our government confirms Syria has recently used chemical weapons on their own citizens, Israelis are reportedly buying gas masks off eBay at a rapid rate! The Hezbollah paramilitary forces in Lebanon have already been armed by Iran with sophisticated missiles and have hundreds of them aimed at Israeli cities.

A bipartisan group of 100+ U.S. House Members has sent a letter to President Obama, demanding that he cease any planned use of military force in Syria without congressional authorization, as required by our Constitution. They urge him to make a case first to them and to the American People.

Some biblical scholars debate over Syria’s future, noting Isaiah 17:1 prophesies that at some point “Damascus will cease from being a city” and will be a heap of ruins. This could involve a “heap of problems” for Israel!

As the storm clouds gather, far across the sea, let us continue to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem!” (Psalm 122:6)
