The Pervasive Problem of PORN

victimsIt is not often that we find European morals to be worth modeling. But recently, in response to the growing international problem of online pornography, UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced that, by 2014, UK public Wi-Fi and most households will start having filters automatically in place. Households can request these filters be turned off, if they choose. Cameron said in his speech, “This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence.”

Many parents do not realize the extensive access to pornography that their children have, where the average child views debasing sexual material for the first time at age 11 or earlier. Parents should take action to add content filters, so they and their children can safely go on the Internet or watch TV, without stumbling across pornography.

Additionally, conscientious cable and Internet providers in the U.S. could follow this particularly positive European model, without any government action.
