Secretary of State John Kerry has returned to Israel for the fifth time, trying to restart the peace process with Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Western diplomats see little traction for his efforts, since the PA still wants to “negotiate the negotiations.”
Remarkably, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is willing to release prisoners jailed prior to the 1993 Oslo Accords and officially freeze settlement construction outside of the main blocs. In return, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would give up his main precondition to start talks based on the 1967 armistice lines.
The PA was originally the terrorist Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), created by Yasser Arafat (who was Egyptian, not Palestinian) in 1964. The Arab-Jihadist goal was then and is now to destroy the nation of Israel and re-establish Islamic control over all of the Holy Land. To this point, the PA has never proven to be a “partner for peace.”
