Preach the Word, not Politics

supreme_courtThis month the Supreme Court is scheduled to announce its decision on two cases that will potentially have the effect of wiping out the understanding and definition of marriage that has stood for all of human history. Before we hear from nine justices what they have considered and decided, we should hear from our pulpits what the Bible says and blesses.

The major issues of cultural concern today are biblical issues. Such things as life, marriage, the family, the economy, the poor, and many others are specifically addressed in scripture. They are and were “biblical” before anyone slapped a “political” label on them and suggested the Church should not speak about them.

The redefinition of marriage is not a Republican or a Democratic issue. It is a critical, biblical issue and needs to be addressed from our pulpits as part of the free exercise of deeply held religious beliefs. It’s not that the Church is somehow becoming “political.” It’s that politics are invading the realm of the Church.
