Keeping Scouts “Morally Straight”

boy_scouts1For the first time in America, we have a sitting President publicly opposing the traditional definition of marriage and publicly promoting unlimited abortion rights.

Now, President Obama is urging the Boy Scouts of America, a private organization building character qualities and moral values in boys for over 100 years, to change their policies regarding practicing homosexuals as members or leaders in this private organization. In addition, some major corporate donors to the Scouts are pushing for this radical change.

If the Scouts bend to this pressure, then any of the churches or faith-based groups that charter 70 percent of all Scout troops will be at risk of legal harassment by huge, wealthy, pro-homosexual organizations. Many–perhaps most–will be forced to disassociate with the Scouts. And parents will begin to pull their boys out of the Scouts.

There is something hyper-hypocritical about those who rant about the sexual abuses of bad priests in the Catholic Church or the predatory teachers in the LAUSD, but who now rush to criticize the Boy Scouts of America’s common sense standards to protect Scouts and preserve the association’s proud heritage.

The BSA’s unstated goal is to protect adolescent boys from abuse by sexual predators. Their policies reflect a well-founded, public perception that men who have a sexual attraction to other males should not be allowed access to young boys in private settings, such as Scouting’s overnight camping trips.

Boy Scouts of America and the concerned parents of Scouts are not discriminating against homosexuals because they are “haters” but because they are “lovers”—of their sons, who they want to live as “morally straight” Scouts and to grow up to live long, natural, healthy lives.

Call the Boy Scout national council office at 972-580-2000 and urge them to stand firm on the current policy.
