Hunger in America

hungerHunger is a reality for 1 in every 6 people in the United States. These are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet. They live below the poverty line and are forced to go without food for several meals—or even days.

At the same time, we are told by the Department of Agriculture that 263 million pounds of food, is thrown away in the U.S. every single day! That’s 27% of all the food produced each year. And much of what is wasted actually is just surplus food. It is nutritious and perfectly edible. And that doesn’t even count the food left in the fields or discarded before delivery.

God has provided food so abundantly in America that there is enough produced to feed everyone. In this Advent Season, let’s us work at being better stewards of what God creates and actively get our families and churches involved in ending hunger in America!
