God has called some to singleness, so they can be devoted primarily to Kingdom purposes (1 Corinthians 7:7-9, 17, 37-38). For all others, he intends the responsible relationship of marriage and ministry (1 Corinthians 7:1-6, 35-40). All of us are called to sexual purity (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8).
Here are four steps for that holy pathway:
- First, “Reserve the Act.” Sexual involvement is to be reserved for your spouse, within the protected boundaries of holy matrimony.
- Secondly, “Restrain the Body.” A friend advises: “Keep your hands off, your clothes on and your feet on the floor.”
- Thirdly, “Respect the Other.” Commit to modesty and morality with other believers. We must not take advantage of or defraud our “brother” or “sister”–in the Lord.
- Finally, “Recover your ‘Virginity.’” If you have failed sexually in the past, confess your sins to God and claim His forgiveness! Then, re-commit to these standards for sexual purity, marriage and ministry.
