Ethical Decisions

I used to think of ethics as something which related to sexual standards. Congressional Ethics Committees seemed to suggest that if it was an ethical problem, it had to do with sex. But that was only part of the issue.

Ethics is the discipline dealing with “doing the right thing.” It describes the moral standards which we believe and the motives by which we live! Ethical problems persist today between

  • “Wall Street” and “Main Street”
  • labor and management
  • political leaders and lobbyists
  • husbands and wives

Ethical decisions must be made when we complete our tax forms, when a cashier gives us too much change, when we choose TV programs or other entertainment options.

As Christians, we must be ethical people, who have moral standards and motivations to live by those standards.  Our personal, ethical decisions must seek to “make God look good.”
