While California already provides for domestic partnerships, the Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to support Senator Diane Feinstein’s bill, S. 598, which is misnamed as the “Respect for Marriage Act of 2011.” It actually disrespects traditional marriage, supports homosexual marriages and would “require states to recognize same-sex marriages granted by all other states.”
So much for democracy! Voters in thirty-one states (including California) have participated in statewide elections for the purpose of defining marriage. All 31 of them, without exception, have defined it exclusively as being between one man and one woman.
It is clear that the majority of Americans, including seven million California voters, believe in the traditional definition of marriage. But L.A.’s politically correct City Council has gone out of its way to unanimously endorse a radical social experiment. How sad!
