Respect for the Rights of Conscience Act
The Senate is expected to vote THIS week on important legislation sponsored by Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri. It would protect the rights of conscience for religious organizations and for businesses so they wouldn’t be forced by the federal government to pay for medical procedures which violate their moral beliefs. It would provide conscience protections for ALL Americans.
Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan recently wrote every bishop in our nation on this subject. He said, in part:
In the United States, religious liberty does not depend on the benevolence of who is regulating us. It is our “first freedom” and respect for it must be broad and inclusive—not narrow and exclusive. Catholics and other people of faith and good will are not second class citizens. And it is not for the government to decide which of our ministries is “religious enough” to warrant religious freedom protection.
It is critical that you contact your Senators and tell them to Vote YES on the Blunt Amendment. More importantly, PRAY that God’s will be done “on earth as it is in heaven!”
- Read HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s statement on this rule and comments by Senate Democrats supporting it.
- Read Senator Rob Portman’s letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, and watch the Floor speeches of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner.
Tell 2012 candidates to “Enforce the Laws.”
Morality In Media reports that three of the four remaining GOP candidates have agreed that should they be elected, they would appoint a U.S. Attorney General who would defend women and children and make enforcing existing federal obscenity laws a priority in their Justice Department.
This is what we need! Pornography and the many harms associated with it have been pushed under the rug for way too long. Millions have been harmed and countless families have been torn apart. The average age of first exposure to pornography is now 8 years old and to hard-core, Internet pornography at 11. This widespread, evil addiction is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to violence against women and is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.
Groups like Morality in Media are working hard to bring this issue to the forefront and all of this hard work is paying off! Now we need to encourage all the candidates to speak out on these critical social issues! Tell 2012 candidates to “Enforce the Laws.”

The Values-less Welfare State
Just a generation ago, the majority of children were raised by a married mother and a father in the same home. Some families were below the “poverty line” and a growing secular government stepped in and awarded more money and food stamps to single parents. This welfare prompted an increase in sexual promiscuity and a decrease in marriage and two-parent families.
Today, the majority of children will face the trauma of divorced or separated parents, at some age before they graduate from college.
Among the many causes for concern is that when a child is raised without both a mother and father in the household, one of the first lessons he or she learns is that commitment is not valued.
Without valuing commitment, children don’t commit to their studies, to society or to relationships. This explains the breakdown of “values” in our society, because when government grows, so do socialism and secularism.
Let’s pray for a return of Bible-based “values” and personal commitment.
Share Our Vision!
At the WORSHIP ON THE WAY NETWORK we use modern means and methods which are innovative, informative, and inspirational so that our programming will be:
- A Conduit of Inspiration: “…teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord…” Col. 3:16. Radio seems able to be heard almost anywhere: in the shower, on the road, at work. Together with our streaming internet audio and smart-phone apps, we can go with you to be the means of ministry and inspiration you need all through your day. We can help you find God—24 hours a day!
- A Mirror for Self-Reflection: promoting self-discovery and recurring cycles of Christian growth. The music and ministries heard over our stations stimulate honest reflection and holy relationships, as we individually “press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” Philippians 3:12-14. This kind of refreshing reflection helps us develop and live out our Christian “worldview.”
- A Catalyst for Change: stimulating and assisting the surrounding community(ies) in spiritual and social betterment, helping believers to find increased “favor with God and man” Luke 2:52. Having a “living” faith, our listeners are challenged to show their “faith by [their] works” James 2:18.
- A Doorway for Outreach: reaching to the world beyond the local church to evangelize, minister, teach, confront, and comfort. God draws people to Himself and uses our “sound alternative.” As we exalt and lift up the Lord Jesus, some are evangelized, others are discipled, and all are built up in the Lord, rather than being pulled down, as they would be by most other media.
- A Network for Communication: sharing ideas, ministries, and tools within the Church. News and ministry features help inform us about what God is doing in our world, so we can rejoice together. Our innovative and informative programs provide Christian education, entertainment, and enlightenment.
If you identify with our vision and are excited by our objectives, then please let us know. Contact us and share how the music and ministries you hear on our network are positively affecting you and your family. Enter your email address at the top of the right hand column on this page to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.
When you write, please share financially, as well. We need your regular and sacrificial giving to enable us to continue as “your sound alternative” in your life and world. Religious Rights & The Culture of Death
The Obama administration wanted to compel Catholic religious institutions to join the culture of death, by forcing them to provide insurance coverage for their employees for contraception, sterilization and drugs that cause abortions. The President is now reportedly willing to compromise and will require the insurance companies of those institutions to provide the controversial services. The religious institution would still have to pay for it–in higher premiums.
In its initial “mandate” this ultra-liberal administration violated not only the conscience rights of practicing Catholics, but also the conscience rights of millions of “separated brethren,” Protestants like us, who rely on Catholic health care to uphold the sanctity of life.
This unprecedented overreach by the federal government was not just out of step with conservatives and Republicans, it is completely out of line with the best traditions of President Obama’s own Democratic party. All Americans have a stake in this conflict. It is not a question of methods of birth control or even abortion itself. If the Catholic Church’s conscience rights can be rejected, our rights will not be respected long. If the government can “mandate” an individual or group to violate one’s “sacred” conscience, then there is no limit to governmental power. All of our cherished constitutional rights would be subject to the whims of the federal government and those in power. One religious group’s beliefs are being trampled today; another’s might be tomorrow.
This menacing mentality must be resisted by all Americans who value our God-given rights of conscience. Call or write your representatives in Congress now—before it is too late! And then, register and prayerfully vote—for those who will boldly protect your precious religious rights! It is your Biblical responsibility!
